Our Mission

What Is Gut Microbiome Testing Perth?

Your gut microbiome — the trillions of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other microorganisms inhabiting your gastrointestinal tract — plays a profound role in immune function, metabolic health, inflammation, mental health, and disease risk. Disruptions to microbial balance (dysbiosis) have been linked to conditions ranging from inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome to obesity, cardiovascular disease, and neurological conditions.

Our gut microbiome testing uses advanced DNA-based analysis (metagenomic sequencing or validated qPCR panel) of a stool sample to provide a comprehensive picture of your gut ecology — identifying beneficial species, potential pathogens, markers of gut inflammation, and indicators of gut barrier integrity. Results are interpreted by a clinically trained practitioner, not an automated algorithm.

What Does It Assess?

Microbial diversity — overall species richness and diversity indices

Beneficial bacteria — key species including Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, Akkermansia muciniphila

Pathogenic bacteria — including Clostridium difficile, Salmonella, Campylobacter, and other clinically relevant pathogens

Opportunistic organisms — bacteria that may cause problems when overgrown

Fungi (yeast) — including Candida species

Parasites — including Giardia, Cryptosporidium, and other relevant parasitic organisms

Inflammatory markers — calprotectin and secretory IgA

Gut barrier markers — zonulin (leaky gut indicator)

Digestive function markers — pancreatic elastase (enzyme sufficiency)

Common Questions

Gut microbiome testing is a health assessment tool — it can identify imbalances and patterns that a trained clinician can use to guide dietary, lifestyle, and (where appropriate) therapeutic recommendations. It is not a diagnostic test for specific diseases. If you have persistent GI symptoms, we always recommend involving your GP or gastroenterologist in your care.

Yes — the gut microbiome is highly responsive to dietary and lifestyle changes. High fibre intake, diverse plant foods, fermented foods, adequate sleep, and reduced antibiotic use are among the most evidence-based strategies for improving microbial diversity and health.

Yes — please avoid taking probiotics for 7 days before collecting your sample, and avoid antibiotics for at least 4 weeks. Do not collect a sample if you have used a colonoscopy preparation solution or bowel laxatives within the previous 2 weeks.
